What Are ENG3U and ENG4U?
ENG3U is the Grade 11 university-preparation English course, while ENG4U is the Grade 12 university-preparation English course in the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). The Ontario curriculum develops four core areas: Oral Communication, Reading and Literature Studies, Writing, and Media Studies.
Both courses require students to read critically, communicate clearly, develop well-supported arguments, and write for different academic purposes. ENG4U builds on the skills developed in ENG3U and is especially important for students preparing university applications.
