What is an OSSD?
(Ontario Secondary School Diploma)

The Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), in particular, is recognized by post-secondary institutions in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and many other countries worldwide. Possessing a Canadian secondary school diploma gives students an advantage in their educational journey and professional careers.
OSSD Requirements / To earn an OSSD diploma in Ontario, the student must earn
OSSD Requires Completion of 30 Credits
- 18 compulsory credits
- 12 elective credits
- Pass the literacy requirement
- Earn at least two online learning credits
- Complete a minimum of 40 hours of community involvement activities
Compulsory credits:
- 4 credits in English (1 credit per grade)
- 3 credits in Math (at least 1 credit in Gr. 11 or 12)
- 3 credits for group 1, 2 and 3 courses (1 credit in each group)
- 2 credits in Science
- 1 credit in Canadian History (Gr. 10)
- 1 credit in Canadian Geography (Gr. 9)
- 1 credit in the Arts
- 1 credit in Health and Physical Education
- 1 credit in French as a second language
- 0.5 credit in Career Studies
- 0.5 credits in Civics and Citizenship
